A sub-publication of the Financial Times, FDI Intelligence has released their biennial ranking of the top 10 American cities for foreign investments and Miami placed 7th in major cities and 9th overall.

FDI, which stands for Foreign Direct Investment - a term for when a foreign business has a controlling ownership stake in an enterprise in another country, takes into account five different factors when calculating the report: economic potential, human capital and lifestyle, cost effectiveness, connectivity (including ports and airports), and business friendliness.

Of the major cities, Miami came in 8th overall for economic potential,  4th for connectivity, and 8th for business friendliness. New York ranked 1st overall with San Francisco pulling in a close 2nd.
