A 1,000 foot observation tower, Skyrise Miami, has received approval from both the FAA and the city zoning board, is scheduled to begin site work in about two months pending a sign off from the city commission.

The bobby pin-shaped spire, will feature open sides, a nightclub, event spaces, amphitheater, restaurant, flight simulator, bungee jump, and a ride with a 50-story "high-speed" drop.

The $300-$400 million project will be the tallest building in Miami if the developer Jeff Berkowitz can secure investors to build it on the tiny plot of land behind Downtown Miami's Bayside Marketplace development.

"It's iconic...It's going to be Miami's Eiffel Tower and will allow Miami to assume it's rightful place on the global map of world-class cities," Berkowitz told a local news station.
