The foreclosure crisis is far from over in South Florida, which topped RealtyTrac's 2013 study of foreclosure actions.
South Florida had the highest foreclosure rate among big metro areas in 2013 at 3.93 percent of homes. There were 96,710 foreclosure-related filings, which includes new lawsuits, judgments, and repossessions. That's a 6 percent increase from 2012.
Jacksonville, Orlando, Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, Tampa, and Ocala followed as the second- through seventh-leading metro areas for foreclosure filings in 2013. Sarasota ranked tenth.
Florida led all states with a foreclosure rate of 3.01 percent in 2013. It had 269,649 foreclosure-related filings, a 3.4 percent drop from 2012.
